What is cupping?
Cupping is a very effective and rapid method to relieve muscle tension. This method is especially helpful when cupping is applied to the neck and shoulder areas. Long hours on the computer is a common cause of neck and back pain and cupping is a great method to provide immediate relaxation and relief. The cups are placed on the body to stimulate the flow of blood to the area of tension. They are either moved across the body or left in place for a few minutes.
How does cupping work?
Cupping employs the application of glass or bamboo cups to acupuncture points or an affected part of the body. The vacuum suction created by heat helps stimulate blood circulation, improve the flow of energy and remove toxins from the body.
The suction of the cups creates a small bruise that elicites a healing response from the body, and over the next few days the body will continue to heal that area. The treated area will then feel more relaxed and the qi and blood will flow more effectively. Cupping feels wonderfully relaxing like a deep massage and its benefits last for a long time. You may have seen photos of many celebrities who have cupping marks on their skin in magazines, they are proud to show that they have been taking care of themselves and taking advantage of the benefits of Chinese Medicine. Chinese Medicine offers much more than just acupuncture.
